I lived in Johannesburg for over 40 years and loved it. I moved to Cape Town 10 years ago and now only visit Johannesburg on business. Unfortunately, Johannesburg is deteriorating daily as the effects of government mismanagement take their toll. It is as sad as it is relentless.

It remains one of our favourite in the world; and holds its own with other world-class boutique hotels (e.g. Hotel Laufaurie-Peyraguey by Lalique that is ranked in the Top 15 in the world). It is exceptional value for money. The bed was easily the most comfortable that we had in 2 weeks in South Africa.
