Mainly a passing town and not worth a night as the hotel prices are pretty steep. Less food choices as well. One way to see this place is arrive in the morning and leave by late afternoon. A few hours is what you need.

Great spot for a tour both a guided and a self guided if you have time. Just prepare for the weather if you are doing a tour on an open bus! Great Navajo guides and a great opportunity to learn more about Native American people.

in order to best take in the valley - I would give yourself a full day to do the scenic drive within the park, and check out some of the other scenic spots nearby. The scenic drive is only available for a short window mid day so plan accordingly. the formations and local pride in the area is very memorable.

The amount of construction around the scenic areas is shocking. I never expected Monument Valley to be in the middle of housing. It was a very sad thing to see. I guess it's the smell of money that changed Monument Valley into a kind of Disneyland. Based on what I saw, I would not make a detour.

Monument Valley is to be experienced!
Monument Valley is to be experienced! We both drove it ourselves and took a tour. I would highly recommend MV Dineh Rebekah (SP?) Cultural Tour which took us behind public areas and we had the attention of a Dineh Guide. It was magical.

Goulding's Lodge is an incredible place to stay! Their restaurant food, (homemade) was some of the best I've had at any location on my vacation, especially the beef stew!!! The portion of food is very generous as well! They have a great museum dedicated to movies that were made at Monument Valley. It also features lots of artifacts and history of the Navaho people. Their souvenir store is excellent and has lots of varied and interesting things to peruse and purchase. All their staff was professional, friendly and very accommodating!
This was a very convenient location for exploring Monument Valley. The room was clean, pet friendly, and quiet. The power was out in the area when I first arrived, but staff were extremely helpful in explaining my options and offered a refund if I wanted to move to a different hotel. I chose to stay and am glad I did, because the power came back on and it was a very pleasant stay. My phone reception was a bit spotty, but they had great wifi. I just wish I'd had more time in the area so I could visit the museum in the area.
We had a king suite with a kitchenette (a little cottage) because we booked last minute. The unit was quite comfortable with 2 beds, a comfortable living room, bathroom, etc. It was also easy to walk outside to watch sunrise over Monument Valley.
We ate dinner in the restaurant at the resort. Our food (BBQ half chicken with pilaf and vegetables was good an reasonably priced, especially since there aren't other food options nearby.
The resort is a nice place to stay if you can't book the View Lodge.
the view alone was probably worth the fee. but being so near to Monument Valley, was also nice your minutes from driving to many sites or taking a tour. also with their own restaurant, it’s a one stop type place. I’d advise my friends to consider staying here.
We had one of the landmark view rooms and it was absolutely worth it - the sunset on Monument Valley was amazing. The room was very big and extremely comfortable. My only regret is not spending a bit more time there, as we only had one night!
The view from the room was stunning especially at sunrise and the hotel facilities were great for such a small place. We especially loved being able to watch a John Wayne monument valley movie in the cinema.
Clean and comfortable, close to Monument Valley for tours. We enjoyed the museum and restaurant close by. The view from our room was beautiful. The food at the restaurant was delicious and affordable.
The view is outstanding and the room is huge and extra comfortable, it comes with a balcony where you can view the Monument Valley perfectly. You can even see the sunrise without moving from your bed
Excellent location. Among the buttes of Monument Valley. Very close to scenic drive and Forrest Gump point. Restaurant on site was great. Lovely communal vibe. Pool as well if you’re into that
loved the old feel to the property. Even though it was dated it was very clean and comfortable. Loved the history of the lodge. The views from our balcony were amazing!
