A World Icon

Featuring tons of national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guesthouse booked through Booking.com.

We liked how fast the elevators and the fast the hot water...

We liked how fast the elevators and the fast the hot water worked, also how large the room was and that it had a fridge. The Cleaning lady helped fix the bathtub plug & was very nice & cheerful. Very polite & helpful elder gentleman helped us place our baggage in the holding room. Staff were pleasant & helpful. There is a CVS literally around the corner that was extremely useful with very accommodating and helpful staff. Viator was very helpful with tours that otherwise required prebooking. We did not like that there was no microwave when we understood that there was supposed to be. Was a bit far from the metro, I'd stay closer next time if I was going to use it daily. Room was as far as possible from the elevator. The hift shop has misleading sale signs so ask specifics prior to purchasing. Then check the CVS prices around the corner to ward off buyer's remorse.

I think Washington DC is an underrated city.

I think Washington DC is an underrated city. Besides the obvious tourist areas, it has much more to offer (Georgetown, U-Street area) etc. It is not just bureaucrats living there, but also a vibrant local culture. Unfortunately, in the last few years, the poverty has become more visible.

DC is so far top two of my favorite cities in the US.

DC is so far top two of my favorite cities in the US. Everything was amazing, the city is clean and safe. Its a very walkable city with lots to see. Its great that there also free attractions like all the Smithsonian museums and even the zoo. The food scene was great, lots of diverse food spots and even international foods. The people were surprisingly warm and friendly, I didn't expect that from all the east coast stories I have heard. The weather happened to be perfect too.

We went to attend the ACC Men's basketball tournament, but we use the off time to explore places in Washington, D.C. that we had not visited before. We got lucky that the cherry blossoms popped open during the week and we got to experience the cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin. Using the metro made life so much easier as I really don't like the ride-share option (had scary experience one time in ride-share). When I go back, I know that I will need to look at the map and plan as much as possible in one area each day, as I did walk MANY steps when I wasn't on the metro.

It was OK...the transit system was nice.

It was OK...the transit system was nice. The location of the hotel we stayed in was in a great location. We walk to a restaurant/wine bar. We had a real nice time. People were nice. Prices were a little high, however we were in a tourist area. Felt stay and surprise by the nice environment. Would visit again. I would not stay at the District Hotel again.

We like everything. The National Mall is amazing.

We like everything. The National Mall is amazing. I specially love The National Galleries with the Van Gogh and Monet gems. We ate at Jaleo and the food was amazing, the service was excellent. Getting around DC is a like crazy but manageable. Wpare rented a car and was able to find parking spots near the White House and The National Archives. It was our first time in DC and we loved it.

I honestly don’t understand the poor reviews. This place is far cheaper than what DC was offering for any hotel, and what I paid, I’d say it was worth it. My room was clean and spacious. Loved the Keurig and big TV. Also. the breakfast buffet was nice, too. I stayed away from the eggs and sausage. But they offered breads, fruits, cereal, HOT coffee, and oatmeal. i would def stay here again when visiting DC. It’s a bit of a drive to downtown DC, but better than spending $275+ for a night…Also, the agent checking everyone in was great!

The people on the staff were so friendly and helpful! We always rate the showers at places we stay at around the world and this one was definitely the best with a 10 rating! (1-10). Bed was comfy too and place was clean and quiet. Tsedenia at the front desk was SO KIND! The nearby restaurant she recommended, Kellari Taverna, was fantastic! If we ever return to D.C., we would stay at this hotel again.

Great location for seeing all the main Washington attractions. Quite close to the Capitol building and very close to Union Metro Station which we used extensively to get to some of the slightly farther away things. We made extensive use of the free tea/coffee/chocoloate drinks from the self service area. The Dubliner restaurant below the hotel was great for breakfasts and evening meals.

A lovely hotel set in the beautiful grounds of Gallaudet University campus. If required, all the staff can use sign language and are exceptional friendly. In particular, we must thank Paula, the deputy manager, for her hospitality. The hotel is a 2 mile flat walk through a nice residential area to Capitol Hill and the Smithsonian Museums, so perfect for a visit to see Washington.

Location was great; near metro. Near downtown. I liked the staff; very friendly. I liked the lobby music--funky. I liked the decor--warm and unique--not at all like a hotel. I liked the rooms. First time I have played a record in 30 years. I liked the breakfast restaurant and the restaurant. I liked the price. Amazing value for all I have described.

Staff is very nice and accommodating. We were luckily able to check-in early, but even if we weren’t there is a free vallet service to store your luggage. Hotel is central to all tourist attractions/areas. Located in the center of downtown DC. Anywhere we wanted to go outside the area was a cheap Uber ride away. Would definitely stay again.

It was clean, the facilites all worked, and it had a 24-hour front desk. It's also in an excellent location for downtown Washington and the Smithsonian museums. The skeleton staff were friendly and helpful and the bed comfy. The room had a microwave and a fridge, which made our stay comfortable and cheaper.

Nice place, great location. While rooms are on smaller size they are nice and clean and well set out. Not cheap but reflects the area/washington DC rather than the hotel in particular. Also staff practical and good vibe. The morning free flow coffee extra appreciated to help with jet lag/work balance.

Great hotel. Top quality. I would rate it 4 or 5 stars and as good as the best hotels I have ever visited. Everything was perfect, from the nice decor to the quality and size of the room to the restaurant and gym to the great location for visiting D.C. And great value for the quality.

Now i think the hotel smelled good the staff was absolutely great. However there should be valet or a cheaper parking alternative. The price was super high to not have it offered. Then my best friend had a roach crawl on her while laying down. Which was the only like insane thing.

This was the cheapest option to stay in central Washington DC. It was nice to to meat and discuss with local people. There is a metro and citybike station very close. The neighbourhood feels safe except for the street of the hostel itself.

Near metro, good eating places nearby, pool, gym and laundry. Laundry is $3 per load, per dryer, per detergent so about $9! You can buy you own detergent, which is what we did as we had many loads.
