We spent three nights at Krokstad Herrgard. It's a lovely old manor house, with a faded elegance. There's some deferred maintenance, but overall it has been updated nicely. The grounds are beautiful -- park-like setting with stately old trees, all overlooking a river. The dining room was outstanding. Our first night they were short-staffed, so the chef, Tobias, served us as well as cooking the dinner. We felt like we really got to know the staff, and had some outstanding dinners. Tremendous value. The location is less than an hour to Ekenas, where there are great opportunities for boating and kayaking on Lake Vanern.

Surrounded by an English landscaped park, this renovated 14th-century mansion is 1.9 mi from central Säffle. It offers free WiFi and a restaurant and bar. Guest rooms at Krokstad Herrgård combine old style with modern amenities. Each room includes a work desk and a private bathroom with bath or shower. Some include a fireplace. Home-made meals based on local ingredients are served for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the in-house restaurant. Guests can also relax with newspapers and drinks in the bar. Souvenirs, books and pots can be bought in the small shop by the reception. The surrounding park provides a nice atmosphere for relaxation and walks.
