the room was basic but sufficient for the one-night stay before the flight home. It would be good if they will provide the room with an electrical mosquito repellent.
The food was very good, but an English menu would be great

Recommend staying in larger hotels. Not easily walkable due to safety concerns and aggressive begging/selling everywhere. We became very ill after eating at two large hotels. Ensure use of only sealed water, even for personal care. Would plan for short stays in the capital, have transportation and activities preplanned. Air quality is very bad due to constant burning of fields. Three of four people in our group were robbed the first day they ventured out to the market nearby. Safety limited ability to explore the area. Traffic is horrible. Bring candy or school supplies if venturing into the countryside, and bring your generous heart, as a little goes very far here.

This is not a wealthy 1st world city, as long as you are happy with that, you will enjoy it.
There is a lot of old culture here, some local, and lots mainly from Colonial times.
Taxis....plenty, but negotiate the price first or you may regret it !. The city is very crowded, so it gets gridlocked easily.
Food...generally street food and smaller restaurants are very cheap, the local rums are to die for, and there are too many to ever try them all.
Bring Lomatil...this is a must.

The price is really reasonable and people and food are nice. Traffic and air condition are awful. It was my first visit to Africa so being there itself was really unusually nice but I think people like clean freaks might hate this city :)

Busy city but there’s not loads to do, a few days is perfect I stayed too long. Restaurants on the other hand were incredible. You do get hassled by people trying to make you buy things but if you’re polite but firm they will leave you alone after they’ve told you everything. It’s a fun place to experience a different market culture but as always beware of pickpockets

Tana shows the (great) poverty of the many, and the wealth...
Tana shows the (great) poverty of the many, and the wealth of the very few. Everywhere you go, the people try to make a living on the street, with little stalls or just a blanket, selling literally everything. Trips of about 5-6 km may take you well over two hours by car/taxi. Walking is not an alternative. The sheer amount of people on the streets during the day is just mind boggling.
The best accommodation in the capital of Madagascar! I highly recommend you to stay here if you are in Antananarivo. The best food ever, you should try the popular zebu steaks. Stuff is adorable and amazing, they are so caring and lovely so it feels like you are staying at your aunt‘s place. And the best thing is the city view from your balcony. It just looks like paradise. The hotel itself is beautiful as well, rooms are clean. I rate this place 10/10 and if I will ever come to the Antananarivo I’ll stay here.
Great Hotel in the centre. Historical building with a gym, spa, pool, restaurant, pastry shop and beautiful outdoor terrace. The staff are excellent, and treat you with so much respect and politeness. You can choose from a basic room if on a budget, right up to a modern or more luxurious room. They can organise a private driver to pick you up from the airport or take you anywhere you need to go.
I had an fabulous experience ..The staff was very attentive and always ready to fulfil any requests I had ..A massive thanks to the chef who went the extra mile to cook the meal of my choice as i have a spicy tongue .Aysha and others at the reception was absolutely brilliant and always smiling . If I visit Antananarivo again I will not hesitate to book Flora hotel.
This place has a really good vibe and it’s the best place in Antananarivo to meet other travelers and locals. All the staff are super friendly and more than happy to help out with anything you ask and speak good english also. Ruby was awesome and always bubbly and happy. The bar and restaurant downstairs is a cool place to hangout and the food is really good.
La Ribaudière is always so amazing! This is my third time over the last 7 years to visit Madagascar and stay in La Ribaudière. The staff is always very helpful, the food is always very good and the price is always right. Americans visiting Antananarivo, this is a must! They speak great english and are willing to arrange money exchange.
The transfer service is good, the rooms are pleasant and clean, the breakfast is excellent compared to other hotels we were at in Madagascar, meals are ok. Of course the location is not beautiful, but when we spent a day in Tana I was really glad that we did not close a hotel in town. Chat’O is really good value for money!
The staff is lovely, and the manager gave us very good help and suggestions on how to get around Antananarivo. The position right in the center is also very good. It is safe to walk around during the day, or get a taxi just below the stairs of the hotel (at the market).
Spa is amazing and definitely worth a visit in Antananarivo, view is spectacular over the capital and very good location, overall good hotel with facilities, well cleaned with good hygiene, staff are kind and helpful and english is available
The hotel is close to the airport so very practical for a lay over, they also offer a free shuttle service. The rooms are very clean and quite spacious with simple but nice furniture. The team was also very fast in responding via booking.
I was absolutely satisfied with everything in the hotel starting from the shuttle and finishing with the shower. The bed was comfortable and I fell in love with the bedding! Lol I will definitely recommend this hotel to all my friends 🧡
For the price I cannot fault this hotel. The staff, facilities and atmosphere were all fab, Dianna was especially lovely and very helpful. Very affordable but was pleasantly suprised by the nice room and great overall experience.
The ambiance created by the massive collection of antiques is truly unique. The fact that the collection was created by buying antiques from locals bringing their pieces to the hotel since 1960, adds to the charm.
Great staff. Good breakfast choices.
Facilities good. 2 nice bars, one roof top. Nice location with extensive spaces associated with hotel. Located in a secure area with a variety of shops and services
The staffs are very friendly and informative.
I also like the design of the building as well.
Also, it offers the airport shuttle (with additional charge) so I could smoothly arrive to the hotel.
Brand new and clean. The bed and duvet are incredibly comfortable. Nice food and restaurant. Close to the airport. Great stopover for a last night in Tana before leaving.
