Mont Cervin is a fantastic place to stay. It is an old school Ryokan style lodge with shared bathrooms and showers, both of which allow for individual privacy. My wife and I elected to stay in a Japanese style room with rice mat floors and futons on the floor. I recommend this type of room for a Ryokan like this. The facilities are clean, warm and inviting. What really sets Mont Cervin apart is the owners. Shun and Takako are wonderful people who bend over backwards for their guests. Shun would drive us to the ski hill in the mornings and to town at 6:00pm every evening do get dinner. They also provide a lovely breakfast. We happened to be there during the traditional Japanese "New Years" celebration which is the last day of winter. Shun and Takako held a lively celebration for the guests. It was soooo fun!

We went to Myoko for the snow and we got the snow!
We went to Myoko for the snow and we got the snow! Loved the long ski runs at Suginohara and skiied there 3 days. Also skied one day each at Ikenotaura Onsen and Seki Onsen. Low visibility killed us! Be prepared to ski in low cloud and less groomed tracks.
Lime Resort Onsen was fantastic.
Local restaurants (Chinese, Japanese and Greek) were great food and value for money.

Myoko Kogen is a great destination for a ski holiday, it is close to the train line, it offers a range of different ski locations within half an hour of the resort all accessible by bus or taxi. The ski lift tickets are very affordable. Myoko Kogen is a traditional Japanese Resort offering Onsens, traditional Japanese food, Ryokan accommodation as well as Western food and accommodation. The town is only 32 km from Nagano, where the Winter Olympics were held and it takes approx. 2 1/2 hours by train from Tokyo.

Akakura Onsen is a nice small village with plenty of restaurants and hotels. Some were closed due to the small amount of visitors, but as there was so much snow it was nice to have space everywhere. Good variety of foods, and a few bars. Make sure your lodge has transportation when the shuttle buses don't drive around the resorts (like this month, which made traveling around harder unless you have 4-wheel drive AND snow tires).

We loved the comfy beds and shared lounge, bar & dining area, the hot tub after being out in the snow all day and the freshly prepared breakfast and dinner. Fabulous vegan and vegetarian options and western friendly. Wonderful owners who made us feel so welcome from the start. Felt like a home stay and we could’ve stayed for longer! Great local recommendations and activities close by.
Thank you Chereyne & Brett - the super hosts! :)

On a scale out of 10 would rate Myoko about a 6.
On a scale out of 10 would rate Myoko about a 6. The mountain infrastructure is very old and tired which accounts for the low cost of lift tickets. The mountain lacks steepness.
Besides the many small restaurants it lacks a village atmosphere.
The mountain geography doesn't support advanced skiers.
It is not clearly sign posted for runs which also makes it difficult.
We found Japan much more expensive than what it was 5-6 years ago and would probably go back to Canada for more value.

Gorgeous quaint Japanese village with authentic restaurants, amazing snow and ski resorts very close by. Very friendly locals, who go out of their way to help you, even with language barriers. Fantastic place to visit for snow sports, lift tickets are incredibly cheap compared to Australia - around $40-50 per day depending on discounts through accommodation, etc. Great place to visit!
Jen and Pete went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable. As soon as we arrived to the hotel, Pete gave us a detailed tour of all the facilities and recommendations on what to do around the town. The private onsen was amazing and really clean. In fact the hotel was super clean and our room was a great size as well! Loved how breaky was included and the there was a great selection of food too. Lastly, the hotel is in a great location- walking distance to the main strip of restaurants and convenience store.
Bjork was very comfortable, clean and stylish. It is nestled in the middle of the woods so some of the windows framed the natural beauty of the Myoko area. The couple who run the place are meticulous about every detail and you feel well taken care of from the first moment to the last. We ordered the breakfast both mornings and it was delicious and satisfying. It was nice to come back to the smell of a fireplace after a day on the hills. We will return there if we go back to Myoko in the future.
The breakfasts were fabulous this property. Every morning, we had a good selection of western and eastern options. Mieko’s pancakes were a real hit with the kids.
We loved using the onsen each night.
The property offers a free shuttle to and from Myoko Kogen station. We were warmly greeted by Cooper on the first day of our stay at the station.
But the real highlight of this property are the staff and customer service. It is a family-run property who care about their guests. We will be back.
Daisuke San and his wife are lovely and helpful and provided discounted lift tickets, transfer to and from myoko Kogan station, transfer to and from sugi resort, onsen, yukata, and good Japanese breakfast of cereal, fish, salads, rice, pickles, egg, frankfurts with tea, coffee, bread roll and croissant.
Central location close to Akakura Onsen ticket office and lift, and restaurants (including those attached to hotel). Run by a lovely Japanese family who were the perfect hosts and made us feel so welcome and looked after. Onsen was excellent after a day on the slopes.
The owners were so friendly and willing to help with anything
It’s a beautiful traditional ryokan with a great traditional breakfast
With walking distance to the Romance Chair for Suginohara this is one of the best traditional Japanese stays you’ll find
AA has a very friendly and exceptionally helpful staff. It's very clean and tidy, recently renovated. AA is very well located in the centre of Myoko Kogen, close to shops and restaurants. Also it's very close to transport, shuttle bus is just nearby.
Hotel Taiko is situated 100m away from the Main Street of Myoko. Our room was very spacious, however friends had smaller rooms. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. Dexter at the bar cooks the most beautiful food and is a must for a quick lunch.
Close proximity to town and lifts, great lodge feel, friendly staff, lovely rooms. I would definitely stay again. I loved the family bedroom great mountain view. Thanks all for making our stay lovely. Best espresso martini’s in Myoko.
This property was in a great location. it was very homey and the hosts were amazing! They made sure we had everything we needed, gave us good recommendations of where to go while in Myoko-Kogen and overall we’re very helpful to us!
perfectly located ski in and out and access to quaint Myoko village. just a very low key vibe and a very beautiful onsen!! we loved our nabe (traditional Japanese soup) dinner!
The ski lifts are at your doorstep. Hotel staff are super friendly and there is a drying room and waxing room for your usage. Onsen pool is pretty clean as well!
Huge room, shuttle service for free to the myokokogen Station, 2 seprated onsens for men and women with great nature view and they also ofer a private 1.
Everything was excellent about this hotel / property. Great breakfast, location and communication with the host. Beds were very comfy; lovely interior.
