We stayed one night at Il Piccolo before our flight home. The accommodation was really close to the airport and Costantino helped me organise a shuttle to the airport. The place was lovely and clean and the communication was very good. Breakfast was supplied and it was amazing. The location close to the airport was good for us and the time that we had available. The port was a short walk away and had good restaurants and a nice vibe. The breakfast was OK, simple and adequate for us. It would have been improved if we had access to more than just a kettle and coffee machine as we got a takeaway pizza and had no plates. We often choose to stay in Fiumicino as a staging area either upon arrival or departure from Roma (FCO airport). It has a sort of edgy border town vibe to it that makes it feel more authentic. It has a nice promenade along the mouth of the river with many cafes, bars, & restaurants; you can fall into a bad tourist place or find a nice authentic trattoria, and also some very posh establishments; most featuring local fish. Not an airport hotel.. Arrived by taxi late as shuttle had finished for the night. We have stayed previously at the Hilton “in the terminal of Fiumicino Airport” and prefer the Hilton Garden Inn. The shuttle bus runs regularly and it is quicker and less strenuous to get to the airport on the bus than do the long walk from the terminal to the so called terminal Hilton! Nice breakfast with plenty of items cooked to order and cold items.
