The hotel exceeded my expectation: located literally right by the train station, minutes of walk to the ferry to the Amalfi Coast, rooms are very spacious, well maintained and spotless clean (can walk barefoot on the floor type of clean!), free breakfast is decent and very friendly staff (big thanks to Filomina who gave me the most beautifully displayed platter when I asked for a kettle to make tea, and Marika who made extra ham when I was almost late for breakfast). The only minor downside is that it doesn't have a lift so if you have luggage, better ask for a ground floor room although even female staff will offer to help you (thanks again Filomina).

Salerno is a relaxed, peaceful city with excellent restaurants, a lively old town, and great access to other locations. It is much more economical and quieter than staying on the Amalfi Coast and is only a half hour ferry ride away from it.

Lovely big town with an old town, cobbled streets and lots...
Lovely big town with an old town, cobbled streets and lots of restaurants and bars. There is a large area of restricted traffic and parking is horrendous, even though it was April every single space along the streets and public car parks were taken. Luckily our apartment owner suggested she book us a space in a private garage and although it cost €25 per night it was well worth it. The port was within walking distance and we took a ferry to Amalfi Coast. Don’t even think about driving along the Amalfi coast as the traffic was horrendous and absolutely nowhere to park. A very busy over crowded coastline.

Lovely Lungomare with views of the mountains of the Sorrento...
Lovely Lungomare with views of the mountains of the Sorrento penisular. Railway station (from where you can travel to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Paestum, Naples and many other places - local and further afield e.g. Rome or further south). Many buses operating all over the Salerno area and Amalfi Coast. Ferry terminal for travelling to Amalfi Coast towns and Capri.
Old Town with narrow streets thronging with shops, places to eat and drink. The Duomo with its magnificent Crypt, Villa Comunale park with the turtles, Castle Arrechi - a steep climb but a great castle and fabulous views.
Not a place for a beach holiday but I'd definitely recommend Salerno for exploring the Amalfi coast, Naples, Pompeii and the surrounding area without breaking the bank!

Great experience. Town small enough to walk easily to interesting sites. Lovely old town. Close to Pompeii and Amalfi without being a major tourist hub. Staff of Burger at greated us on the street the next day. Great personal service. The Grand Hotel was excellent. Great location near the train station and friendly helpfull staff.

1 day in Salerno was too long.
1 day in Salerno was too long. There were a lot of homeless and sketchy people. It was like the Newark of Italy...filthy. It didn't even feel like we were in Italy until we got to the old part of town. But, we didn't feel safe here either.

Such an attractive city, clean and interesting. the old town was a pleasure to walk around, the church of St Matteo an absolute must to visit, the promenade along the sea front perfect to stroll along.
lots of interesting restaurants and bars and a fabulous ice cream parlour on the sea front - bar Gelateria Nettuno is an absolute must
Sadly the botanical gardens (Minerva) are closed for restoration at present
Wonderful! The room was beautiful, peaceful, and comfortable! Host was so kind and welcoming. The room was big and felt like a suite. We were thankful for the air conditioner as it was so hot outside! The traditional Italian breakfast displayed in the dining room was a very nice touch. The vibe here is true to the buildings' history; quiet, relaxing old world Italian villa.Just what we wanted while visiting Italy for the first time. Also, it was easy to find from the train station and just steps away from shopping and restraunts.
Convenience and accurate description of hotel on Booking.com.. We were driving from Lecce and decided to stop in Salerno for the night. The hotel is conveniently located off the highway with views of the bay. The hotel staff is exceptional and very helpful as he help check us in and brought our luggage to the room.
Small elevator so it took two trips (first with people only and the second with our bags).
We were able to walk into town for dinner.
Room was spacious for 3 people.
Everything: the room was very clean and had all we needed for a travelling family with pets including a balcony; the beds were very comfortable; the location was good, with walking distance to the lungomare and free parking space next to the b&b; the air conditioning was great too. The host was very nice, easy to reach, easy to talk to and very accomodating. It was very nice finding water in the fridge and coffee. If we ever come back to Salerno we’ll stay there again for sure.
Delicious and varied breakfast (pastry, coffee, prosciutto, cheese, toast, fruit), awesome room (Adamo, it is even better than of the photos), personnel gave a lot of good tips - where to go on the ferries, what to visit etc. The shared kitchen has a fridge where you can also take water. Very nice mini hotel in a great location, in the historic center of Salerno. Railway station is very close, beach is also near! I highly recommend Casa dAvorio!
Location, Staff, Room Service, Spacious Room & Good Bed, Breakfast.
Used the Hotel Plaza as a base for a 3 day 4 night trip to the Amalfi Coast during the 1st week in May.
Every night we would order Tea and cakes from reception. There was no charge for this during check-out.
It was wonderful to come off the train from Naples at Salerno and walk 150 meters to the hotel. Vice versa for the return journey
I loved the location and the easy parking at night. We travelled to Salerno and stayed three nights. Every day we were travelling to a different Amalfi Coast location, but every night we we’re driving back to Grand Hotel Salerno.
That was one of the greatest ideas and you should stay at Grand Hotel Salerno for that reason.
Easy check in / Friendly reception / Quite clean inside the room
Newly renovated, spacious apartment near the center of Salerno. It is in a quiet area without much noise, but still close enough to many restaurants and major sites. The beds were super comfortable and everything felt like staying in a brand new hotel! One of our favorite rental stays. The host was extremely helpful and answered all of our questions and was very professional.
A wonderful place to stay, the owner helps you with everything and is always very attentive to your needs. Breakfast is great. The beds are very comfortable and the room is very spacious. The ideal place to spend your days in Salerno and the surrounding places since it is not far from the train station. We will repeat for sure.
Many thanks to the host!
The hotel is located in a pedestrian street in the center of Salerno, a 10-minute walk from the train station, 10 minutes from the cathedral and 5 minutes from the coast. Lot of shops around.
I had a room with a terrace and there was a kettle with tea and coffee. The room was clean and tidy.
There is a bidet in the bathroom.
The breakfast was good.
The Hotel is located across the street from the Salerno train station, but you really don't hear the trains. It is also a short walk to the Sea, Ferries and many restaurants. The breakfast was very good with many choices of pastries, yogurts, cold cuts, bread, eggs and coffee and juice. The room (1 single) was plenty big enough and very clean.
Location in center of the old town, close enough to rail and ferry systems. Good food all around. It's in a charming, crowded old building occupied by families all around, with the smells and laundry that go with that. There's no doubt you're in Southern Italy. Perfect, in my mind.
The property is very modern and upgraded. Absolutely the best A/C system during our entire trek across Italy. Apartment is very clean. there is a small washer to wash clothes, drying must be done on a line, but we managed. The owner was very responsive and rules and clearly marked.
Comfortable, clean and well equipped room. Perfect location for exploring Salerno centro storico, pedestrian street for shopping and restaurants, and the lungomare. Attentive staff (Marianna was always available if we needed something). Petramare is a also a great value.
Front of sea Hotel, one of the best you can expect in Salerno :). Small room (ok for a short stay) with balcony with sea view, that's what we call holidays. 5/10 min walk from city center. Breakfast in the room due to Covid circumstances, still OK. I recommend.
The best location in the historical center, very close to excellent pizzerias, nice bars and shops.
The room was quiet (not very common in Italy) and WiFi and AC worked perfectly.
Nice shower.
Location of the apartment was perfect for our stay in Salerno. Very convenient to the downtown area with shops, restaurants, sights. Apartment was very comfortable overall, also.
Excellent location, in the hearth of Salerno, close to everything. Spacious, modern and very clean room. Very good price. Very satisfied with the stay.
