We enjoyed the breakfast buffet so much . Also the peace in the hotel as well as the hot tub and sauna under the stars. The highlight of the stay was seeing the auroras from our bedroom window in the cottage.
Featuring a stargazing observatory on site, this luxury hotel is in an beautiful remote location next to the Rangá salmon river in Hella.

We loved everything about this place. We were able to upgrade to a suite after we arrived and I would recommend that to everyone. The dinners were great and the lounge area and the bar were perfect. The staff couldn't have been nicer. Not to mention that they have a call service you can sign up for that rings your room if the Northern Lights come out...... Just fantastic

Perfect. It was too windy to take hot tub when we are staying. If summer time no winds, it would be super! Room is very clean, beautiful, nice breakfast, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere, secret place. Waterfall “Kvernufoss” was really great thank you for your recommendation.

Easy to find, breakfast included, clean. Huge window to watch northern lights (we didn't have any). Morning staff for breakfast was nice. Convenient location.
Hella a bit sparse. No good restaurants that we found and they stop serving at 9pm. Not much to Hella but it was in the countryside and we saw the Northern Lights. Our hotel was well lit so we could find it but they would not turn off the lights to view the Northern Lights better.

Small central town, great for staying at the igloos, and great for going all round. So nice to go east to Vik for the Katla ice caves, skogafoss and the waterfall hike, and Vik beach and west for kerid crater and blue lagoon and then north for gullfoss and the geysers. The town itself has a small supermarket, nice bakery and okay places to eat. Looks pretty with the mountains to the side.

We were not happy with the accommodation.
We were not happy with the accommodation. The front desk staff were disorganized. We were told a day before check that we would have 2 cabins instead of the 2 rooms we booked in the main hotel. When we arrived we were told we would get 2 cabins. When we checked I across the street, we were told we had one cabin which was a downgrade for us. One adult had to sleep in an upper bunk bed and the cabin was smelly , some windows did not fully close and the main door did not lock. We were quite disappointed in the accommodations. The cabin was not in good shape. We specifically booked 2 rooms to get 2 bathrooms period. Based in all of this, we would like to request a partial refund.

Beautiful, clean, modern home with spectacular views.
Location of home is quiet, on a horse farm, about 30 minutes from the main town of Selfoss. It was a good location to explore the south. We would stay there again!

Terrible relocation experience due to overbooking.
1.
Terrible relocation experience due to overbooking.
1. Unacceptable reason of overbooking in real time booking system especially we have fully paid.
2. The selection of customers for relocation is not transparent, not logical and also not acceptable, especially we have fully paid in serval months (confirmed and paid on 4 Feb 2023 for the booking on 1-3 Aug)
3. We booked 3 rooms (7 persons) for 2 nights (1-3 Aug). Maybe pre-empting us can release more rooms for others, and maximize the revenue as we might paid less (booked in 6 months in advance)
4. Very short notice ie we received the relocation message at 16:18 on 1 Aug that we were on the way to Legendary Hotel Hella. I strongly believe the overbooking happened at least a month ago but I had only 2 hours notification time
5. 2 receptionists are inexperienced to handle such disaster issue. The manager, the decision maker, was hidden and not face to or talk to the customer directly. 2 Receptionists were not able to explain the situation nor to comport their customers.
6. We were relocated to Bru Country Estate, that required us to drive about 1 hour to there.
7. Hotel Hella booked 3 rooms for us (7 persons) in Bru Country Estate for us but there are only double rooms (no triple room) in Bru Country Estate. It created another problem during the careless relocation booking.
8. We booked a local tour to Highland on 2 Aug. The itinerary was changed and shorted due to longer travel time starting from Selfoss instead of Hella
Loa’s nest is a clean, modern guesthouse just off route 1 in Hella. Mountain views and horse farms abound giving the location a calm and serene feeling. The guesthouse is run by a wonderful, kind family who cheerfully greeted us in the morning and shared friendly conversation over coffee and waffles. Spacious, simple rooms with comfortable beds gave us the best sleep we’ve had in Iceland. The private bath was also spacious and clean with modern, hot showers. We can’t recommend Loa’s Nest highly enough!
Hotel Hella was a haven in the midst of a terrible snowstorm when the driving was nearly impossible with a 2 WD car with summer tires. We hadn't planned on staying in Hella, but couldn't get any further and were lucky there was a room available. The staff were so nice and accommodating. The snow was so deep it took 4 people to shovel out a place to park our car. We felt so fortunate to stay in a nice quiet room while the storm raged outside. The staff were exceptionally nice.
Tindasel Lodge seems like a boutique lodge off-road near Hella. Driving towards it feels like going on a farmstead and entering the Lodge itself feels like steping into a deluxe hotel. The rooms were nice and had a pleasant smell. The staff was friendly and helpful. It had an amazing outdoor spa which was amazing to relax in during the evening hours with a beautiful view of the country side.
We had a great stay and really enjoyed it. It was a lovely change to staying in hotels. The hosts were so welcoming and could not have been more helpful, with information on Icelandic culture and tips on what we should see and do. Having access to a kitchen was great and the waffles in the morning were delicious - thank you!
The property was amazing. The rooms were nice and cozy. Best I’ve slept while being in Iceland! Stu, one of the family members, was great! He made us an entire list of “things to see”. And added a few extras. Also, the “greeter”, Ilva (Border Collie) met us at our car to say hi.
Highly recommend this hotel!
First, we couldn't find the hotel entrance, but the Kanslarinn Restaurant barkeepers kindly showed us where to go. We checked in to the hotel with a friendly man, who explained and showed us everything. The room was nice, and we had a relaxing stay at Kanslarinn with a fine breakfast the morning after.
It's located right next to the Caves of Hella. The people who worked in the caves do not own this house, but they helped us more than once when we got stuck in the snow while in the driveway. We adore them. But there are lots of other, better places nearby. Skip this one.
Check-in was quick and easy. Our room was basic but comfy enough with all the essentials we needed. Hotel is located in town, close to service station/ restaurant. Breakfast was very good standard with several choices of food. Good value overall, would happily stay again
most magical location elevated on a snowy hill by a winding river blanketed by stars and northern lights. boutique feel with great Nordic interiors. staff were wonderful. sooooo much better than the locations of larger hotels near by. simply magical.
I have stayed at dozen of hotels in Iceland. This was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. The cottage was super clean and had everything needed for our stay. Hopefully I will have a chance to visit it again :)
Host is so kind and helpful
We can contact her everytime if we need her support
It is perfect house
This house is like 5 star hotel
It is good experience for me
I will visit again if i come to visit in iceland again
We regret not staying more nights at the hotel. It was an incredible stay. They acknowledged our anniversary and left a lovely surprise. The hotel is super cute and cozy. It was the best breakfast we had in Iceland.
We liked everything about this little hostel/hotel - the location, restaurant on site, the rooms were larger than most we stayed in, the rooms were quiet, the beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was fabulous.
Charming lodge, very comfy bed and a nice breakfast. Owners are lovely and helped me to map out new waterfalls i had not experienced before. Great location perfect for your time in the Hella area.
The room was one of the best we stayed art during our 10 days in Iceland. The best bed, good breakfast, friendly staff, clean spacious room. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
