A friendly town - we stayed in the camper site which was great and then a return visit to stay in a hotel and we ate in the food hall which was nice with options and variety. We also did the Skyr tour in the basement of the food hall. I would add that a wider and more of the “taste” section would be nice.
It’s a central spot to come back to or travel from and back if that suits your travel plans.

Selfoss has a sweet, mostly walkable, growing center that includes an easy, level river-walk. We found enough variety in the food hall to keep us well-fed and happy with the choices over several days. (It was recommended to us by a rental car agent at KEF. She was rightly enthusiastic about the tacos - and just about everything was solid!) Selfoss is also a great location near the Southern Coast for easy, varied day-trips - everything from amazing waterfalls to black-sand beaches, from otherworldly volcanic deposits to hot-springs, craters, and more. With Selfoss as our lodging spot, we could have happily explored for several more days.

Nice quiet town with more than just the waterfall.
Nice quiet town with more than just the waterfall. Plenty of places to eat and shop. Þingvellir national park is nearby with great views, hiking and (of course) several waterfalls. The fall colors were out during our visit the last week of September and only last a few days.

The Hotel South Coast is right in the middle of town near many nice restaurants and the Milk Factory food hall right next door. We chose to stay in Selfoss for out last night because it was less than an hour and half from airport. So stayed here instead of going back into Reykjavik which also cut off an hour from our drive on the afternoon of our last stay. It is a great location and also cheaper than Reykjavik. The town has a lot of options including shopping and eating and near a lot of things to see so you could even use this as a base for a South Iceland tour. We loved the town and our one night stay. Ate at Kaffi Krus which was delicious and adorable place to eat. Also in the food hall which was very nice.

Room was pleasant but faced the street, so there was noise.
Room was pleasant but faced the street, so there was noise. I had to open the windows to cool the room at night and the neighborhood stayed fairly busy until late. There's a lovely bakery next door to buy breakfast and a nice supermarket within walking distance. I was given a handicap room which had a flat shower with a wrap around curtain that got the whole floor wet. My partner's room faced a quiet courtyard and had a bathtub with a shower.
Everything! The best of the place is the blonde boy from the staff who was super kind and we really appreciate his friendliness and help(thank you so much!!)
The hotel is a quiet place near Selfoss, perfect to see auroras.
The rooms are well-equipped, the bathrooms too, with gel, shampoo and conditioner (such a plus!).
There are two huge shared kitchens and dinning area with all you need!!
The most amazing part is the sports pavilion ... so stunning! we would like to stay more days in this hotel to play there
I truly recommend this place!
The house is amazing and much better than the description. Its warm and has a lovely lounge dinner. It has a dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, hair dryer and toiletries in the bathrooms. Loads of space for the 6 of us. The kitchen is well fitted out which is great as we cooked every night as you are not close to any restaurants. We had a problem with the hot tub and our host came over and sorted it out so we used it every night, amazing!!! The location is stunning and we saw the northern lights.
Heima Holiday Homes are beautiful, clean, spacious. They are in a more remote section of Selfoss with a gravel driveway but this also makes for private and quiet place to sleep at night. We had a toyota yaris car and it handled the driveway just fine. There are many waterfalls within 30mins to 1 hour of this rental. The hosts are very helpful if you need them but otherwise will give you privacy. We would definitely recommend and stay here again.
Comfortable cabin and warm the whole night. To check in, we met with the host who welcomed us with Nero and Pluto the very friendly doggies :) Didn’t get to use the hot tub, the shower or kitchen, as we only stayed one night. Not far from Selfoss with lots of restaurants, although there is a fridge, kettle and crockery in the cabin if you don’t fancy the kitchen! Would recommend this peaceful place.
This is a cozy charming hotel in what seems like a middle of nowhere. It's a type of a wooden chalet and was warm and nice inside on the contrast with cold and drenching rain outside at the time of the visit.
Big bonus was the restaurant inside the hotel which was already mentioned by many here - it was a buffet and had delicious home made food I guess icelandic style (you had pay extra).
My first stay in Iceland and thankful to have chosen Selfoss and this adorable apartment. everything was so great from communication with host to a warm welcome. the view is great of the river and over the small town of Selfoss. very spacious and practical apartment, excellent wifi and nice having a washer and dryer. this was such a great start to my Iceland adventure, highly recommend!
Great location, within 5 minutes walk to many restaurants. The garden is beautiful. The apartment is very spacious and clean. The bathroom looks new.
The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. Great host who offered laundry service which we needed desperately after hiking 3 days in the rain. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay again in the future.
We arrived quite late, so didn't have time to explore all the hotel facilities, but we had a warm welcome at reception and as there is no restaurant, we were directed to a great food hall 5 minutes walk away. In general the hotel is modern, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good with warm food options. Easy free parking on the street outside.
Location this hotel is really great. We felt in this village like in some christmas movie. Everything you need is really close - a great food hall and supermarket. Best attractions were around 1 hour ago - Geysir, Reykjavik and waterfalls. Good choice when you want to visit more places and stay at one place.
Very unique, relaxing and beautiful place to stay. We stayed in a bigger house. The house was beautifully designed. The beds were comfy. The house also had personal hot tub/hot spring. The retreat has amazing restaurant. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The staff is very friendly and welcoming.
Loved the room, the staff and the restaurant. Breakfast was included with a great variety of local and continental options. The indoor and outdoor thermal spas were nice with territorial views. Super clean, comfortable and quiet. Dinners were fabulous.
The resident dogs were a nice bonus!
Very nice location, close to Reykjavik and Vik, very convenient to visit the golden circle from.
The rooms were decent, the curtains could use some love/attention.
You'll have to fix your own breakfast but that didn't bother.
The hot tub is a nice bonus.
Outstanding! Great value for the $. Very clean. Located in cute countryside. You are not just limited to your room, many resting areas available. Well equipped and spacious kitchen. Hot tub is a nice bonus. Easy check in, owner sends a helpful email prior.
The apartment had a private entrance, was spacious, well located for shops and restaurants, well kitted out and clean. We enjoyed living in a smart residential road, in what was a family home. Our hosts always answered our queries. Highly recommended.
It was very cozy and comfortable, perfect space for a couple. Everything was super clean and Gudrun was really nice and helpful. Location of the apartments is great, close to the main street with supermarkets and restaurants.
The location is great, perfect for mid way stay after visiting the “Gold Circle” before going further to the south coast. Vary clean and spacious, good for family travel. A washer in the house is a plus.
The location is approximately 14km from Selfoss. A car is essential for getting around. The Hotel is quiet and comfortable with most rooms having a patio area to use when weather permits.
