Hotel Gringo Perdido, hotel in El Remate

Located in El Remate, 23 miles from Tikal National Park, Hotel Gringo Perdido has accommodations with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a fitness center and a garden.

This hotel is truly remarkable. Its architecture not only dazzles the eye but also ingeniously combats Petén's high temperatures. The staff are exceptionally friendly, and the hotel's "no music" policy preserves its serene atmosphere, offering a perfect escape from city life. We especially adore the tranquil lake harbors for swimming and relaxation. The f ood they gave us was also great!

Very pleased we stayed in El Remate as it was close to Tikal and the border with Belize. The hotel / our room had lake views and we swan from the dock close by. The room was very clean , we had the end room so had the best view. Nice balcony and close to shops and restaurants . Friendly owner , Humberto, organised a great tour to Tikal ( 5:30 am pickup ) with a group.

Posada del Cerro, hotel in El Remate

Located in El Remate, 22 miles from Tikal National Park, Posada del Cerro provides accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

It's a hidden treasure in El Remate. I loved the room and the view, although the heat was intense, and the only cooling option was a fan. Fortunately, the hotel has its own energy plant, allowing us to use it during town power outages.

Much more relaxing here than Flores or Santa Elena.

Much more relaxing here than Flores or Santa Elena. You can easily get the colectivo for 25 QTZ to flores, and it drops you back in centre of El Remate. Sometimes they even go to your hostel along the main road if you ask nicely. A few restaurants and shops but the highlight is definitely the views of the lake, sunset over the water, sitting on the dock!

El Remate is a small relaxed village near Flores but with a very different vibe. The lake is amazing to swim in and to be around and the howler monkeys place in the trees above the streets. Beautiful hidden location

    Amazing experience!

Amazing experience! Real nature immersive experience but only a half hour away from town. Definitely consider all options (and reviews!!) when choosing accommodation.. the range is large and a little bit of a splurge goes a loooong way. The lake is peaceful and truly picture perfect, well worth the trip for sunrise and sunset alone. Pick a place with kayaks/paddleboards included!

I liked the comidors tipico. Authentic local food.

I liked the comidors tipico. Authentic local food. Everything is within walking distance. Small town. The sunsets and stargazing here are top notch. I would avoid Tienda El Remate. The guy charged me more for the same product 3 days in a row. When I told him the price was higher than the day before, he shrugged me off and walked away. There are plenty of other tiendas in town. Great location for visiting Tikal- only about a 40 minute shuttle. If you plan to do a sunrise tour of Tikal, you should consider getting your ticket at a Banrural before arriving here.

El Remate is a small lake side town.

El Remate is a small lake side town. We thought it was perfect on our trip to Tikal. After visiting the ruins you can enjoy the view on the lake or jump in and cool off. in comparison to Flores it is not very touristy and if you visit a restaurant you will be treated as a friend. It is for sure a fun place to relax.

Literally everything. The staff were so helpful and friendly, the service impeccable. Drifting up to the property via boat and taking the funicular up to the hotel is a must - so unique and felt like I had entered the video game Riven/Myst! Such a special experience that my kids and I will never forget. The lake set up is beautiful and so quiet/private, and the pool option is also lovely with great views of the lake. Everything was beautiful, the attention to detail was so appreciated, and their tours are fantastic!

Despite being a little up the hill from the lake and in jungle this lodge was spotlessly clean. The construction of everything was beautiful and obviously done with a lot of care and skill. We spoke for a long time with the caretaker Santos, and he was one of the most friendly and helpful people we have met in Guatemala. This lodge is quiet and great for a nature experience. We felt lucky to have stayed here. We did the nature walk at the Biotopo next door and saw both Howler and Spider monkeys.

It's absolutely fantastic we booked 2 days but stayed 4 and didn't really want to go. The hotel is so beautiful, the rooms are perfect, comfortable and you have pricacy. Personel are really kind, funny, relaxed and helpful. They are happy to show you the animals who live close by.. The view over the lake is unbeatable. The area and the lake are clean, because of the awareness of the importance of the nature. Just visit, you will love it here! .

This is a charming inn run by Humberto and his family. It's simple but very clean and comfortable. Each room has a little front porch with a hammock. Humberto and his son can help you reserve trips to Tikal and Yaxha and give you tips on where to eat. The price is so reasonable that even a Guatemalan friend who was passing through town was impressed by the value and chose to stay there for two nights.

Like a great Adirondack camp from the late 19th/early 20th century, the kind the Rockefellers and Whitneys built. But transported to Guatemala. The lakefront is fabulous, the common areas are impressive. We were on “half-board”. Both breakfasts and dinners were excellent; stayed 5 nights, never had the same meal twice. Staff was cheerful, courteous, helpful. Lola was the prefect hostess.

Santiago is a fantastic host who knows a lot about the area and really takes time for his guests. The staff is super helpful and kind. The room was really comfortable and big. The location in the garden of the hotel is brilliant and offers a lot of privacy. In addition, it is often possible to observe and listen to the animals crossing the garden. We had an amazing time!

It was too hot in June to use the lake (there is limited shade in that area) so used the pool. There weren’t many people there when we stayed so service was hit or miss. The tours were very pricey, especially a boat taxi to Flores. The hotel itself is clean and nice.
