I stayed on the grounds so there was not much around the area. Tikal was so rich with history and culture of the Mayans. Going to the museums in the park first is helpful to prepare you for what you will see at the ruins and why. The ruins were beautiful despite a lot of them not being excavated yet . Climbing to the top of the dome the ruins was breathtaking to be able to see what they saw. My tour guide was excellent and knew so many things outside of what the signs explained which made the trip more enjoyable.

Tikal is amazing. The structures and views are incredible.
Tikal is amazing. The structures and views are incredible. The history is unique and interesting.
The area is confusing, but just walking the paths is delightful. Listen for the wildlife. Learn to recognize the structures that are not yet excavated. Align the maps they give/sell you, to navigate more easily.
Guided tours have two costs: tour fee and guide fee. This was a surprise when we settled up at the end. Be sure to ask for total costs.

BEWARE OF THE TOURIST GUIDES (Tikal or the rest of Guatemala)!!! they propose some very expensive visit on Tikal ($70...50....more or less) there is no published rates....so they do what they want...and they want money.
ticket to Tikal is 150 Quetzal if you are a foreigner and 100Q if you are from Guatemala, that you must pay in cash to a bank ( BANRURAL).... and you get no receipt for that!!!

Tikal Was amazing. The ruins were very cool. Many people like to rent a tour guide and they do give you some cool history and educational facts but I loved going in free solo. I was able to explore the ruins on my own time and go to all the different ones I wanted. It might be a good idea to buy a map of the place because there is not a lot of direction signs.

Avoid the middle of the day, 11 am to 2 pm.
Avoid the middle of the day, 11 am to 2 pm. That's when it can be oppressively hot and when there are the most tourists. We took an early morning flight from Guatemala City, then a shuttle from the airport at Flores to the Jungle Lodge. But instead of going directly into the park, we had lunch and took a nap. That way we missed the heat and the people and could wander through the park until sundown. Then we did the reverse in the morning: we got going at 6 AM (no breakfast available that early, so plan ahead) and had the park to ourselves and saw it in morning fog and light, and then returned about noon for another nap before taking an evening flight back to Guatemala City. We had several hours at the Flores airport, so we took a Tuktuk to the city itself and a quick boat ride around the island at sunset. Lovely!

Extraordinary ruins.
Extraordinary ruins. Saw plenty of wildlife, one of my favorite parts.
The dawn walk begins at 4:30 am and lasts 4 hours. Mostly wildlife viewing and sunrise. The evening walk which requires a guide involves climbing a big pyramid in the dark and watching sunset and star viewing.
For the elderly or less physically capable, the park operates a truck every 15 minutes from a tienda just inside the gate. It operates 9-3 and takes you to Central Plaza (and back).
Great location, inside the National park but just outside the archaeological site. Family room great for us travelling with three kids. Well organised transfer from airport after a late flight (although not cheap).
Helped us with tickets after we were misinformed regarding minimum age for children requiring tickets (Banrural told us 13 but in fact it is 10)
We accidentally left important medication at the hotel and the response was fantastic - they arranged to transport it straight to Flores for us. We can’t thank the staff enough for this.
Location, staff and services. My flight to Guatemala was changed 5 different times (don’t fly Tag Airlines), each time I message the hotel and they made arrangements to help accommodate me, including taking me to their sister hotel in Flores for a meal since My last flight change would cause my arrival to be after the on-site restaurant closed. The airport Tikal ticketing off made a mistake on one of my admissions tickets, but Kevin got it corrected. The hotel has serval rotating tour guides, but you should ask for Cesar for the best tour.
The Jungle Lodge Tikal Hostal is located directly in the Tikal National Park which makes you feel like part of the jungle, including the howling monkeys during nights. The setting is beautiful and the Hostal is located on the same premises with the hotel - you can use the same pool and restaurant. The Hostal has shared bathrooms and showers and they were always kept clean. The location inside the park allows you to access the park as the first people if you book the sunrise tour.
Location, location, location. The room was very clean and comfortable. The restaurant might be the only option for meals, but it’s a really good one. Staff is very friendly and will solve any issues immediately. They accept payments in Guatemalan Quetzales or U.S. Dollars. The tours they organised were also very good, and the airport transportation they organise was also smooth and punctual.
This is such a wonderful place. It’s right near Tikal, so if you’re doing the sunrise tour you don’t have to get up extremely early because you don’t have to travel from Flores. The hotel is beautiful. It has a nice pool and good food. The staff is very very friendly and helpful. I loved hearing the jungle sounds in the evening, morning and night! It makes the Tikal experience complete.
And the location of the hotel was absolutely the best for visiting the Tikal ruins. Right out the door and you’re there in the park. The big surprise was the food was absolutely outstanding. Breakfast lunch dinner desserts everything was way more than we expected and I have told everyone and share pictures with everyone about our experience at the hotel.
We loved the location and the hotel. It is beautiful. The pool is especially lovely, a great temperature and nice and clean. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The showers allow for good adjustment of temperature. It's a nice atmosphere, laid back and very convenient for the entry to Tikal. I can recommend it as a great place to stay.
Jungle Lodge Tikal has an excellent location right at the entrance of the park. Nice, complete small bungallows make you feel comfortable in the middle of the jungle. You are in your safe room and you can enjoy the noises of nature. The personal very friendly, and the restaurant serves a wide variety of food.
Excellent location inside Tikal where you can see from the pool toucans and spider monkeys (as in Tikal national park). We highly recommend the sunrise tour with Cesar (local guide from the Hotel) who can nicely explain the Maya culture in today’s words (he also grew up in the NY so his English is excellent).
Perfect spot if you plan on visiting Tikal for sunrise and sunset. The staff was very helpful and the rooms were clean. The property is beautiful. Lush landscape and a large swimming pool. We had dinner on the property and it was delicious. Highly recommend this hotel to visit Tikal
This hotel is in the jungle. We were woken up by howler monkeys and there were many other animals on the grounds. This and seeing Tikal was our main goal and it was 100% completed!
This is the closest hotel to Tikal, which is super convenient. We got to go twice in 1 day.
The location is amazing. 2 minute walk to the national park. Staff is amazing as well. Monos swinging from the trees in front of the hotel. Pizotes and wild pigs walking around. what more could you ask for?
Great location right next to the park. The hotel was clean and offered many activities to do in Tikal. The pool was great too, but not open long enough for those hot nights.
The staff were lovely best part of our stay. The accommodation is basic. If you like a little bit of luxury this is not for you. Jungle Lodge would be the place for you.
