We went to Kazbegi to see the Gergeti Trinity Church and Mount Kazbek, and were extremely fortunate with the weather - in November. During our visit to Gergeti Trinity Church, the sun was shining at 15 Celsius in the air and just wispy clouds were in the sky. The next day snow fell on the slopes, and the temperature hit freezing point. The drive ut from Tbilisi is something to be mindful of if you are easily stressed or inexperienced. We drove ourselves, and I am an experienced driver who has been driving all around the world. You should set aside 3+ hours for the drive - and be prepared for a large number of semi-trailers heading in both directions. Be prepared to pass them when the situation allows. And be prepared for them to pass each other when the situation doesn't. When you arrive in Stepantsminda, the town in Kazbegi where we stayed, you are at the mercy of the weather when it comes to what you can see and do. If the mist shows up, the view is gone. On the road down, use the engine brake on your car - or else you might fry the regular brakes.Mr.IversenNorway - 10Scored 10
The scenery is breathtaking.
The scenery is breathtaking. The visitor centre on the main street is useful and friendly. You can drive up to the Church , iconic photographic opportunity. We visited in September, not very touristy at this time. Its a relatively small place with a couple of shops. The drive up and backon the Georgian Military highway is not an easy journey, lots of lorries , you quickly learn to overtake them on bends.

It is a good get away if you are looking for hiking, good views and refreshing greenery. We enjoyed our stay as we were looking for exactly this. The weather at the end of aug/ starting September is a good time to visit.

Stepantsminda is a picturesque town with the Caucasus mountains for a backdrop. The ride from Tbilisi to Stepantsminda along the Georgian Military Road, was enjoyable, particularly the sights en route. The Gergeti Trinity Church was interesting and it would have been spectacular had Mt Kazbegi not been shrouded in clouds on the day of my visit. However, the skies cleared during sunrise the next morning and I had awesome views of Mt Kazbegi from my room. Dinner was at Cozy Corner Restaurant. The food was good and I liked it that the walls inside the restaurant were adorned with money from all parts of the world, courtesy of visitors who have eaten at Cozy Corner Restaurant. I would have loved to stay an extra day or two in Stepantsminda but time did not permit.WeisuanMalaysia

Quiet, clean, nicely furnished, with a large and secured green yard (perfect for small children), luxury orthopaedic mattresses (I saw comments complaining about its hardness, but it was just perfect for my tired back after a day-long hiking) and, most importantly, extremely friendly personnel and a lovely puppy for the children to play with! One of the best price-quality ratio hotels in Stepantsminda.

Guka speaks excellent English! Lots of animals around the home too that all want your attention. We enjoyed the place so much we returned for a few more nights. Possibly our favorite lodging in our one month in Georgia!
