Beautiful location overlooking the dales, breakfast was beautifully cooked. The staff were exceptionally accommodating to the needs of my elderly mother, and dietary requirements of my wife, couldn’t have done more.

We loved the Black Swan! The service was outstanding. I travelled every week for work before covid and I have seldom had better service anywhere in the world I've been. Definitely the best service I've had in any hotel in the UK. I have mobility issues and while the Swan has no lift the staff couldn't do enough to help with bags etc., Good free parking behind the pub with plenty of parking spots. Breakfast was very good, best I've had in a while. The only drawback was dinner was not as good as the breakfast. Bar staff are very friendly. Lots of locals come in so you know it's good. The location is perfect with a short walk to any shops and to Pickering station (NYMR). We plan on coming back later in the year.

The location and parking were excellent - the NYMR Pickering Station is just 5 minutes walk away. The breakfast was served in the conservatory and was virtuously faithful to the positive reviews (enormous tea pots a hit). The rooms were spacious and clean - they'd actually been redecorated just weeks before our stay. Staff all friendly and knowledgeable. An experience at a good price. It's just how a small hotel should be run.

Gorgeous, peaceful setting. Wonderful and very personable hosts that let us arrive early. Marvelous breakfast. Our itinerary was too rushed, wishing we were able to stay for a few days. Highly recommended!

We stayed in Thornton Le Dale a couple of miles outside.
We stayed in Thornton Le Dale a couple of miles outside. This location is ideal in that it is within easy reach of most local attractions and also the coast. Plenty of pubs, cafes and independent shops.

Nice little market town with plenty of places to eat in the evenings, even in the winter. It is a good centre for visiting other places nearby and it has the main attraction of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Clean tidy and relaxing.
Clean tidy and relaxing. The birds at the pond were lovely to see. Even saw a kingfisher. Hot tub was very nice and they even turned up the temperature to meet our preference. The hot tub was checked and attended to promptly ever day of our stay. I know Pickering very well as my daughters lives there. We used the site as a place to relax and be with my family after loosing my brother few weeks before. My husband had also retired that weekend so we wanted to be close to our family. All our needs were met but could have done with few more cooking dishes and trays as we did not want to go out to eat. Would recommend the site to others.

Beautiful town. The NYR is a real tourist attraction.
Beautiful town. The NYR is a real tourist attraction. The stops are interesting and mostly independent! Parking is plentiful! Pickering is a fabulous base to explore the moors! Just 20 minutes to Whitby, 20 miles to York. Plenty of places to eat, lovely cafes and pubs! Don’t forget to visit the Castle. Scarborough is a 30 minute drive. People in the town are very friendly and the shops are very welcoming of dogs. Pickering is a real gem of a town! Flamingo Land theme park is about 10 mins from Pickering.

The purpose of our visit was to visit the Bangers and Cash Auction House, and to visit there memorable museum in Thornton le Dale. Pickering was a nice place. We went out of season so it was quiet and only went for two days. Ate at a Indian restaurant which was recommended to us.
The location and parking were excellent - the NYMR Pickering Station is just 5 minutes walk away. The breakfast was served in the conservatory and was virtuously faithful to the positive reviews (enormous tea pots a hit). The location was within a short walk to the town and the log burner was an added bonus for us kept us very warm and cozy. Lots to do close by from Scarborough to whitby and we even went to the famous Bangers and cash shop in Pickering the cottage was very clean and tidy and there was plenty utensils and cooking equipment and much more for our needs. I strongly recommend this little cottage as it was peaceful and quiet.
To me the hotel had a "classic" quality about it. I loved the patio the garden it was so green, pretty and quiet. The public rooms where you could order a drink was nice. The dining room, the size of it, and the staff was excellent. The breakfast was good size and delicious. My room spacious, and loved the bath tub after a long day of hiking. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend the Forest and Vale.
We loved being able to use the fireplace. We were in The Tack Room and it's a very well laid out cottage. It's comfortable, homely and cosy; perfect for a couple to stay in.
It's walking distance to everything in Pickering and it's a relatively short drive to York, Whitby and other coastal towns. You can also get to Dalby Forest and other lovely places pretty easily for a nice walk which we liked.
Fantastic, friendly owners. The hotel is approx 2 miles from Pickering, so nice and quiet. The seating area outside was nice to admire the country views and we visited the horses across from the carpark too. As we wanted an early start, we were able to pre book our breakfast in the morning to save some time which was a nice touch. We would happily stay again.
The hotel is surrounded by rolling hills and idyllic views, the staff were very welcoming and accomodating even though our booking didn't show up on their system upon arrival and although we hadn't made a reservation for food, the chef offered to make us anything we liked, would definitely visit again
The cottage was lovely! Quirky and the added Christmas decorations made it cosy and festive.
A personal touch of tea, coffee, biscuits etc was lovely!
It was in a perfect area, we went to Pickering for the Santa express with our little boy and we could walk.
Location great, but we knew that before staying as we visit friends in Pickering annually. Very friendly staff, excellent choice of real ales, and excellent evening meals. Great to see so many dogs staying - our 2 really enjoyed.
The Black Swan Hotel is located in a beautiful picturesque village, and an ideal location. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely room and a very comfy bed. I would highly recommend a visit.
Very nice hotel in beautiful location
Lovely large garden next to a paddock - met Bert the friendly horse!
Room very good
Also has a nice little bar and we had an excellent dinner in the airy dining room
Everything about the hotel was excellent, beautiful room and fantastic food. You need a car as there is nothing in the village but it is very close to Pickering and other North Yorkshire attractions.
Location in Pickering was great. Nicely maintained property; decently sized rooms and bathrooms. Food was great and really reasonably priced. Owners were helpful and flexible.
2 en suite bedrooms, well appointed kitchen. Off road parking behind property. Location, 2-3 mins from Pickering High St and 5 mins from the Ryedale Swimming pool.
Warm and cosy, lovely double room, gorgeous view of the garden. Just a few minutes walk from central Pickering. Lovely welcome from the staff & gorgeous breakfast.
