Not used to such tiny hotel rooms and probably never will get used to it - it's like staying in my closet at home. But that aside, IBIS was clean NO SIGN OF BEDBUGS anywhere and the staff was great!

Most visitors to Carcassonne come here for one thing: to see its fairytale, UNESCO World Heritage-listed castle sitting majestically on a hill east of the city.
Spectacularly lit at night, this Cité is a restored medieval fortress with 52 towers, 2 outer walls covering almost 2 miles, and a drawbridge providing access to a keep. Twice daily there are medieval jousting displays within the walls. This intriguing castle has enchanted so many that it has appeared in novels, films and even inspired a board game.
Some Carcassonne hotels, bars and restaurants can be found in the Cité but the majority are in the Ville Basse below. The stone Old Bridge, also lit at night, links it to the city center over the Aude River.
Central Carcassonne also has its own sights including a fine art museum and a cathedral with impressive stained-glass windows. But its best feature is the South of France way of life, with relaxed bars and sidewalk cafes, some serving the local speciality – cassoulet. Other slow-paced attractions include boat trips along the Canal du Midi and visiting villages like Minerve in the surrounding hills.
Served by national and low cost carriers, Carcassonne Airport is only 3 miles from the city center.

The medieval citadel is well worth a visit, and tour around the Chateau Comtal, however spolit with the array of shops selling souvenirs. We visited first May Bank Holiday week, and found many restaurants closed, and the menus limited to the same at each restaurant. The town has a square with restaurants, supermarket and cafes, again with limited menus.
Canal du Midi, towpath was over grown and a lot of homeless people sitting around drinking. The boat trips were not running at this time. The river was pretty but limited to walking along as there is no path..

Poor trip reconnaisance on my part, thinking I could navigate by car in the city center of a medieval town. Six inches of clearance on either side of our rental car as we cautiously crept down the one way streets. No parking except in an underground garage ten minutes walk away.
The castle is a twenty minute walk from city center, the last 1/4 mile uphill. Great to view the citadel walls and turrets from a distance. Inside the walls, hard to tell which cobblestones and masonry were from the middle ages, and which were 25 year old patches. Lots of ticky-tacky souvenir shops, some appealing bistros/restaurants, a fabulous 800 year old church, and lots and lots of visitors in late April. Can’t imagine what it will be like this summer.

Carcassonne is probably done in 2 days, one for old, one for new. If you are in the old town I would definitely book a restaurant for evening meal as they were often fully booked when we asked, and this is April. Also this time of year we noticed it was very quiet in the week but everything seemed to open up on Friday for the weekend.

Carcassonne is a small walkable city with a romantic castle and a lot of history! Lots of restaurants and shops to explore. Enjoy the outdoor market on Saturday morning, between the old walled city and the "new" city. Bring good walking shoes! Friendly and helpful people even if you don't speak French.

First on the visit list is the beautiful medieval castle,...
First on the visit list is the beautiful medieval castle, listed on UNESCO World Heritage registry, Its history is well documented and presented, the staff at the castle are all so friendly and kind, they tried to give me very personal time during the visit even though my exit after the closing hour was a bit protracted because I had taken a wrong "route" - wandered into the last section of the visit first and did the exploration in the reverse order! The town itself was bucolic and relaxed, clean, serene, and safe. All the people I encountered (* except one lady, who probably was not from this town!) from shops to restaurants to tourist office to streets were very pleasant and honest (when I innocently picked up oranges to buy in a basket, for example, the fruit shop lady spontaneously inspected each pieces carefully and pointed out one of them was slightly damaged, and went to pick up a better replacement for me, which she didn't have to do!) There were a lots of region specific products, as well as international products (such as Italian Truffles, Italian fur products!), interesting and delicious food to eat, and the climate is generally much warmer than other parts of France. Sunny happy rational place like this, which retained "good old France" aspects restores in a visitor's heart rare hopes for humanity! It also seemed that there is a good size of international community with expats who settled down. You can experience exotic encounters here, so, I would not say this town is a closed up, hermetic, mono-cultural location, nor it is xenophobic.

We were very surprised at the quality of the restoration.
We were very surprised at the quality of the restoration. Also, that there are so many eating places within the walls - some a lot better than others.
Interesting displays and museums. A visit to the bascilica and castle are musts.
The bakery associated with the hotel is wonderful, especially for breakfast. Really tastefully furnished and delicious pasties. La Boulangerie de la Cité.
Location-it’s just a few minutes walk to the citadel/old Town.
Beauty-Carcassone is a medieval place rich in history.
Service- I would say it’s a 5star kind of service extended to us. Since, we came from Avignon, Fred picked us up at the train station and drove us again to the station on our way to Lourdes.
Cleanliness-the unit where we stayed is immaculately clean.
This hotel has an excellent combination of a historical building with modern amenities. The host was also gracious, breakfast was very good and the secure parking area was wonderful. The walled city is a 10 min walk away and there are great restaurants within 5 min walk. Note the photo is of the back of the hotel; the front is not as charming.
Hotel Espace Cite is located right next to the old castle and “Cite” in Carcassonne. The personnel is friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Breakfast, served buffet-style, is well tended and well stocked with many fresh items. There is a pleasant outdoor spot for guests who do not wish to eat indoors. The facilities are super clean.
Very nice budget hotel. It is only about 15 mins walking from the castle (old town) and close to supermarkets and other amenities. Very close as well to the highway in case you are traveling and just stopping by. Good size rooms. Recently remodeled, comfy beds, good size bathroom. Overall perfect stay
Having stayed here before we decided to treat ourselves to a superior room for the last night of our holiday, as the hotel’s in a brilliant location in the fantastic old city. The foyer is very welcoming and in the old part of the building, which is characterful. Breakfast buffet was varied.
Super modern accommodations, literally next door to the medieval city of Carcassonne. We cooked, did laundry, and felt right at home. Everything we needed was provided. We had a few questions, and our hosts answered our messages within minutes. We had no problem parking our large SUV.
An old-fashioned hotel, not that smart, but charming. I had a lovely big room. Very quiet street, near the train station and in the newer part of town, with good restaurants nearby. The old town is about a 30 minute walk, but I think the new town is probably a better area to stay in.
Location: just outside the old city walls. Staff friendly. Secure parking on site. Bedroom comfortable & quiet.Proximity to autoroute. Carcassonne itself was fairly quiet at night so we ate in the hotel bar/restaurant.
loved the location -so close to the old city and the medieval city. Free parking on the street close to the accommodation. The accommodation was beautifully presented and our room was so lovely and comfortable
Charles was very welcoming, and the room was spacious and clean. The location of the hotel was excellent for visiting the old medieval city and the newer part. It was an easy walk to the train station.
Hotel is in good location next to the old city but also can walk to centre of new town. Swimming pool was added benefit. Breakfast was good although you had to book it the night before. Great shower.
Staff were really friendly, the breakfast was very nice and the hotel was an easy walk to bars and restaurants in the shopping district and to the old city. It was good value for the price we paid.
It was close to the medieval city and very quiet (although it is quite a long walk, about 25 mins, to the nearest small supermarket). The host was responsive when we had a couple of issues.
The location of the hotel was good - just a short walk to the old city. Also appreciated the hotel having private, secure car parking. Plenty to eat at breakfast with lovely croissants.
Location was excellent ,just ten minutes taxi ride from the airport, a few minutes walk to carcasonne Square with lots of shops and restaurants, and twenty minute walk to the Old Town.
The location is wonderful- the view of Carcassone is great and it’s about a three minute walk to get into the old city. The view at night is great. There is ample free parking.
Upgraded to a luxury family room with amazing views of the medieval city. Staff at the reception were very polite and friendly, I would definitely recommend this hotel.
A beautiful hotel inside the medieval city.
The best place to sty , at least 2 nights, in order to understand the atmosphere and enjoy the medieval city.
