We enjoyed our very large room at this hotel and it provided us with a great night while on the Camino! The stay was friendly and the hotel was right in the main square with lots of options for food. It was very clean with a large bathroom with bathtub!

Great place! Breakfast was simple but the best! We loved having a kitchen and there is a (mercado) DIA in town. The owner is awesome and the bar is comfortable.

The town is full of historic buildings and sites, and the surrounding area is stunning and interesting. Being a significant stop on the El Camino Santigo adds to vibrancy. The viticulture and grape industry is beautiful in the surrounding region, and in a very short distance you can be lost in a myriad of very old rural villages.

Villafranca del Bierzo is an amazing town, full of history and with beautiful historic buildings. It is truly an enchanted medieval town in the path of the french Camino de Santiago. We arrived for the town’s celebration of their patron: “El Cristo de la Esperanza”. The “Ayuntamiento” organized a lot of activities, a fair, concerts until late night, wine tasting and tapas. It was memorable. The town is in the UNESCO list of historic places. The Church of Santiago with Las Puertas del Perdon, the church of San Nicolas, La Colegiata, the church of San Francisco have been built centuries ago and are witnesses of the history of the town. These buildings are artistic representations of other times and tell you about the glorious past of Villafranca del Bierzo and its vibrant present. The food is delicious.

Good central location and small terrace with view to a church on the hill above. Compact apartment well-equipped and comfortable. Parking is not easy nearby but there’s plenty up near the Tourist Office. The host was friendly and was at the apartment within a few minutes of phoning him when we arrived.

We spent only one night in Villafranca as we were walking the Camino de Santiago. Nestled between mountains, this is definitely one of the most beautiful towns we passed through, and there were many lovely ones. Points of interest include La Puerta del Perdón and Plaza Mayor. Puerta del Perdón Restaurant served us one of the best meals we had on our entire trip. Villafranca is in the famous Bierzo wine region, so don't miss trying the wonderful wines!

I am a pilgrim walking along Camino de Santiago.
I am a pilgrim walking along Camino de Santiago. Camino Santiago is going through Villafranco-del-Bierzo. Yo can have rest and good meal at any cafe or restaurant here. They are always ready for pilgrims. The town has special signs for those who walks along Camino, so yes, it is easy to walk around. There are many churches there, a castle and a very beautiful garden which dates back to the 17th century.

Vina Femita was an exceptional experience on my Camino. The quality of the amenities, dinner, and hospitality from the owner Juan felt similar to a luxury hotel experience. The property itself is beautifully appointed, with a huge verandah for relaxing and eating tapas after the walk. The dormitories are by far the best of any I have stayed in on the Camino, with individual beds and nightstands. The pilgrims dinner was exceptional quality. Juan made me feel very welcomed at his property. Overall, a great stay and highly recommended.
Suite was awesome! Generous sized tub, double sink in the bathroom with ample counter space. Sitting area with TV and bed made up with the extra pillows that we had requested using booking messenger! Front desk staff was excellent. Excellent suggestions for sights to see and recommended a new restaurant in town. Helped us book hotel rooms in two towns where Booking.com said there was no availability. We heard the indoor pool was a must see, but we missed it. Breakfast was one of the most leisurely and enjoyable of our vacation.
This was an absolutely lovely hotel. The room was loaded with charm, with wood beams and stone walls. It had a little balcony with a table and chairs to sit out on.
The manager was excellent...super helpful. We told him we would be leaving early the next day, and since our rate included breakfast, he brought us up a tray in the evening that had juice, cake, little toasts with butter and jam, and a thermos full of coffee ( it was still quite warm the next morning!).
This was a gem of a place!
This hotel was excellent. It is at the top of the village and on the Camino path. The owner was very hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed. Dinner was superb. I wasn’t expecting fine dining! Breakfast was also great. This was the only time on the Camino that I needed the alarm to wake me up, do the beds must have been very comfortable. I would have liked to have a ‘rest day’ here.
It's probably the best hostel I've stayed in on the Camino. It was like a resort hotel. 10 single beds (not bunks) in the room with clean cotton sheets, plenty of space, a nice modern bar, and a garden terrace. Dinner cooked by hosptalero's mother was well above average for a pilgrim meal, as was the wine, which was local. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
The room was tidy, cozy and very well equiped.
The hotel is on top of a hill so the landscape is beautiful.
The owner made me feel super confortable, I enjoyed the conversation and the atmosphere of such a special place.
I am really looking forward to come back.
The location is very convenient, at the center of Villafranca del Bierzo, still nearby parking was available in the street. The rooms are large and functional. There was no breakfast served in the hostal but there are some nearby restaurants open in the morning.
Situated in a lovely town this beautiful boutique hotel is so comfortable but also reasonably priced. Rooms are really comfortable, immaculately clean and tastefully furnished. Staff were so helpful - it was a joy to stay and sad to leave
Easy to find. Super clean. Big bright room and bathroom. Lady working there was lovely. No food but gorgeous meal in restaurant at bottom of the street. Very handy to Camino route.
I'm so pleased I stayed in this hotel.
a fantastic Albergue and Carlos the host could not do enough for me . it was a great stay and the breakfast was included in the very reasonable price . I would really recommend this Albergue in Villafranca del bierzo
No breakfast was included. The location was wonderful—in shadow of castle and close to plaza. Luis was very accommodating. We are biking Camino and being able to store bikes on patio made it easy.
Sonya was an amazng hostess. The location was wonderful, and there is an amazing garden with a fantastic view of the mountains. I will stay there any time I walk through Villafranca del Bierzo.
Beautiful Hotel in the center of town. Great beds. Very quiet. There was a very pleasant breakfast buffet. The receptionist gave some helpful hints on where to eat and sites to investigate
The location of Hotel Plaza Mayor was good and owners and staff helpful and friendly. Some English spoken with varying degrees of competency all better than my limited Spanish.
It was very special to stay in what used to be a monastery. A classic experience in what was one of our favorite towns along the Camino. Friendly, helpful check in.
The restaurant was excellent for both dinner and breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable enough. The location was good for an easy start on the Camino.
