I liked Loja better then Cuenca. It is more relaxed, cleaner, and has a wealthier feel to it. People are very nice and welcoming. Podocarpus is a gem, I advise people to find a way to visit (there are very few outfitters, but there is a couple).

One of the most amazing province in Ecuador.
One of the most amazing province in Ecuador. Beautiful landscapes from dry to cloud forests. It is needed at least one week to travel around the main city and the rural areas. Also, one of the best coffee producers places around the globe. Traditional food is exceptional too! And people, very gentle too.

Beautiful calm city with plenty of things to do!
Beautiful calm city with plenty of things to do! Many museums and beautiful streets! I was enjoyable just wandering the streets and visiting stores and churches that we stumbled upon. I would recommend wandering around the town before going to the Museo de la Cultura Lojana because one of the most rewarding parts is seeing the old pictures of the city. However, you can really only appreciate those old pictures if you know what those sites looks like today. Regarding the museums, not all the information regarding openings is up to date. I would make sure to check with the visitor center in the Puerta de la Ciudad to confirm which museums are open. (Even though it said it was open online, el Museo de la Musica was closed due to renovations).
Recommendations:
-Puerta de la Ciudad
-Museo de la Cultura Lojana
-Museo de las Madres Conceptas de Loja
-Plaza de Independencia/San Sebastian
-All of the churches, very beautiful
-Parque Lineal de la Tebaida
-Mercado Central (en el 10 de agosto). Great breakfasts at great prices!
Very easy to catch a taxi in Loja. However, I also navigated most of the city by foot.

Beautiful city, nice people, a lot of places to visit, food excellent and cheap comparing other cities, people are willing to help, you can ask any question, if they don't understand English, they will figure it out, even asking other people at the street.
You will never find yourself lost in this city .
I will recommend the best place to have a local beer with the "Artesanal del Barón de la Cerveza", plus some delicious *Tapas*, the place is named **LA TASQUITA EC**, excellent black beer, affordable.
I love it, definitive I will come back .

Very nice setting in the Andes.
Very nice setting in the Andes. Spring-like temperatures year-round. Lots of festivities, especially in the fall. Nice vibe in the central city. Friendly people. Quite inexpensive overall. Close to all kinds of great mountains to hike in. Known as the music capital of Ecuador; free concerts every Thursday evening in the Plaza Sebastian. An amazing number of different restaurants with good food. (Try Dumas Restaurant close to the Central Cathedral.) The city is famous for the coffee grown in the surrounding area. Lots of lovely parks.

In the past Loja was just a place to come from Vilcabamba to buy things unavailable in Vilcabamba. But the city of Loja is the artistic capital of Ecuador and in my opinion, is a cleaner city than Cuenca or Vilcabamba.
Beautiful hotel in the center of Loja city. Exquisite decor and installations are immaculate. One of the best hotels I've stayed in Ecuador with a great price and 5 star service without breaking the bank.
I highly recommend Grand Victoria Boutique Hotel; Staff is exceptional, and even though they are not bilingual, they still try their best to accommodate any inquiry. Truly an amazing place to lodge while in Loja city with beautiful pool, jacuzzi and sauna, bar and restaurant serving menu items and drinks are also great.
I thought a lot of leaving a review but I think it's always worth to leave a review so that businesses can improve.
First the good aspects
The room was spacious and the location was fairly central just 5 minutes to main square walking
There was hot water in the shower and 3 towels provided. WiFi was working well.
I briefly met one of the staff members the next day and was very friendly and welcoming
Price was very low which impacts the value for money especially if you are travelling on a budget
The place was super clean and tidy. There was a swimming pool to take a nice dip after a long day of hiking and relax in a peaceful environment. Michelle was super helpful, accommodating, and spoke good English as my Spanish is a working progress to say the least. It was definitely the comfiest bed I've stayed in since travelling and I highly recommend staying here if you are in vilcabamba. Short taxi ride from the bus station to the accommodation (5 minutes) 😁.
What a excellent place to stay. Its a family run business and the host's are ever so friendly. The rooms and dining/breakfast area were absolutely spotlessly clean. We had dinner there and it was great. Also breakfast was very nice and great coffee. Bedroom and bathroom are the best we have seen in Ecuador. Also it's very quiet. No traffic noise. I would highly recommend this Hotel.
The hotel is very low cost and meets the basic requirements. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. There was no refrigerator or microwave in the room but that didn't matter since I'd planned to eat out anyway, and there were several restaurants within a few blocks. You have to ask for room service, but the staff did an excellent job when service was requested.
The hotel just at the end of renovation. Very clean, everything new. Located very close to the city centre. We have found communication with hotel staff a bit difficult, as we don't speak Spanish, but but when finally understood, they fulfilled our requests.
Good business hotel. Super peaceful at night, did not hear a sound and had a perfect rest. Comfortable bed, good shower, good WiFi. I left really early, and was provided with a packed breakfast, very much appreciated.
2nd stay!
Same as the first one.
A world class hotel in the heart of Loja.
Great quiet, comfortable and functional room!
Excellent staff!
Thanks to Narcisa, Christian and the young receptionist. (Forgot his name)
The hotel is in a great location. Staff is great and very informative. They had great suggestions for us regarding restaurants and places to visit. The hotel and rooms are extremely clean. Wonderful place to stay.
The hotel interior looked good, and there is an interesting museum gallery of local historic artworks and artefacts. There are some fine plants in the courtyard but it's a bit of a stretch to call it a garden.
