Historic center was vibrant and scenic. Enjoyed visiting the Basilica as well as the magnificent Church of the Franciscans and the colorful architecture and plazas. Enjoyed the chocolate tasting at Mundo, delicious traditional Andean cuisine at Runa Tulpa Andina and excellent continental cuisine at La Vid in the Archbishop's Palace. There was 360 degree view of city from the Statue of the Virgin Panecillo at top of Quito. A major highlight was the tour of the Capilla del Hombre and the home of the artist, Oswaldo Guayasamin.

Due to current political issues in Ecuador, we were a little apprehensive about making the trip. However, only minutes after we landed in Quito we fell in love. The airport is amazingly clean and has all the amenities you would want. Quito, the La Carolina area, was extremely clean and very secure. The shopping was fantastic and there were tons of restaurants to choose from. All that said, we were most surprised by how reasonably priced everything was.
Also, a lot of bars do not take credit cards. Ecuador uses the American dollar, so have some on hand so you don't have an awkward experience.
We would definitely make the trip again.

We were just there one night to experience the city having spent a few nights in the mountains near Pifo.
Loved the crazy city - beautiful architecture. Lots of security/police presence which made it feel safe. My partner was unwell so I explored the city solo - I was approached by a policeman who gave me a map and ensured I was safe/aware of where to walk etc.
It is easy to travel by foot. I would have liked longer but feel 2-3 nights would have been plenty.

We stayed 2 nights in Quito.
We stayed 2 nights in Quito. We had one full day in Quito, which was not enough. We happened to be there during Carnivale. We took a cab to the Basilica and then walked to Independance square to observe the celebration. Later we had a great meal in the nearby hall.

I was robbed on the third day I was in Quito.
I was robbed on the third day I was in Quito. A pickpocket stole my wallet and I lost USD 200. The police didn't seem to care and most couldn't speak English. Every single day I was harassed by beggars, some of whom were very aggressive. I didn't feel safe in Quito and became paranoid. I couldn't wait to leave. I would NEVER return to Ecuador and probably not any other country in South America. There is a nationwide state of emergency now, and it's very dangerous. I advise my fellow Americans to avoid Ecuador like the plague unless you go straight to the Galapagos Islands. Ecuador is by far the worst country I've ever been to and I've traveled all over the world.

It's an old city, with lots of history and historical buildings. Many museums, often free. The surrounding mountains are beautiful and the climate is excellent.
Most of the people I met were friendly and willing to help a confused stranger. There are some beggars, and some unsavory areas, as with any sizable city.
I highly recommend visiting Wikiri Sapoparque if you're an animal lover. It's a great and unique experience.
I booked over 150 different hotels on Booking.com so far. This one is in my top 3. I stayed here twice for a total of 8 days. The hotel and rooms are decorated with taste. The rooftop breakfast and lounge area offers a superb view of the city. But there is more, much more: the staff. Yale at the reception will make you feel at home and help you with anything from taxis to private and group tours. Just a hint: people in Ecuador are the nicest in the world, and the staff at this hotel is the nicest in Ecuador.
Excellent family-owned Hostel in Quito, especially for couples or groups of friends. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and more importantly: very quiet. The garden has hammocks, chairs and even a gym. It’s a small oasis in between all the chaos of Quito.
But the staff stands out the most. They are incredibly friendly and helpful. And for only three dollars they offer a quite substantial breakfast.
There’s also balance which is perfect if you should leave Ecuador by plane afterwards.
Our Ecuador adventure began in Quito at Hotel David. Everyone working here is exceptional and go far beyond expectations for customer service. They helped provide available and reliable transportation from airport and around the city. Our room was spacious with a fabulous view of the mountains from our balcony. Breakfast was excellent and freshly prepared each day. Room was cleaned every day and was spotless. Our bed was comfortable. We had a wonderful stay!
The Chakana is a nice little hotel on the edge of the old town. The owners and staff are wonderful and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and safe. The location is perfect for walking to the historic center or taking an Uber/taxi to great restaurants or all sorts of other activities in a few minutes. We highly recommend the hotel and will be happy to return should we ever be in Quito again.
After a trip in Ecuador with very loud and run down hotels, we ended our trip by treating ourselves to this slightly more expensive hotel and it was so worth it, especially as we were both sick. The room was very clean and free parking!! Big TV and comfortable bed. Very clean. The best part was the breakfast (US$12 each) as it had many delicious options buffet style.
We stayed two nights longer than planned because we liked the place so much. Marisol was very helpful and friendly, the flat has everything we needed, the kitchen is fully equipped, and there is even a washing machine. The trolleybus stops right in front of the building, the old town is a 5minute walk away. Just perfect to start our travels in Ecuador!
Terras was nice. Staff is very helpfull. It was quiet and green in a busy part of Quito. It was really good to relax after spending a day in busy Quito The coffee and fresh juice with the breakfast was excellent. Excellent fast Wifi compared to some previous stays in Ecuador. The top floor had a beautifull garden, there even were humming birds.
This place is amazing and the owners go above and beyond to help in any way they can. We stayed twice during our two week trip to Ecuador because the first stay was so exceptional. The hotel itself is so beautiful and special, but the owners are really what made it so extraordinary. Don't think twice, just book it!
Modern, clean and comfortable. More of a boutique hotel than a hostel. Really friendly and helpful staff and pretty well located. Short walk to La Floresta and cheap taxi ride to old town. Lovely little terrace as well. . Recommend this place wholeheartedly.
Lovely traditional building in close (walkable)proximity to Quito’s old town. The staff was excellent— friendly, helpful, and responsive. We absolutely loved watching the sun set over the basilica and old town. Loved the vibe + decor of the restaurant.
Hotel Cayman staff were very friendly and helpful. They were a delightful welcome at the start of my trip in Ecuador. They prepared a lovely breakfast and the room was very comfortable, clean and well furnished. The wifi was also very good.
Perfectly located hotel right in the city centre. The couple that run Hostal Benalcazar are lovely and extremely hospitable. They made our short stay in Quito very memorable and helped us with all of our queries.
I came here with my girlfriend to propose. The hotel staff went out of there to help me plan and get anything I needed. They were all so nice and one of the best places I’ve stayed in Ecuador!
Exceptional staff and customer service beyond expectations. They go above and beyond every day for the customer. The hotel is in a great location to walk to the historic sites in the old town.
Hotel runned by a lovely family, we were extremely well treated.
It is clean and have Hot water, walking distance from the historic center.
Best quality price we had in our trip in Ecuador.
This hotel was in the heart of the Old Historical District of Quito. The location lead us to visit the center of the old town rich with restaurants, churches, and spectacular views.
Lovely small hotel close to everything in Quito’s old town. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, the rooftop bar has a great view of the city and the breakfast is exceptional
Have been coming to the hotel for many years and the staffs are super friendly always welcoming with ecuadorian roses. Love the breakfast!!! And the Spa
The staff was friendly, and the hot water in the shower was functioning well (which is not always the case in Ecuadorean budget hotels). Good location.
