The owners of El Chontal are so nice and friendly. The cabin was beautiful with materials and furnishings that were all custom made from local materials. The cabin was very clean and fresh smelling. Linens were clean, bright and smelled nice. The communal pavilion is large, has nice tables, hammocks and excellent wifi. The communal kitchen provided all the basic necessities to allow us to brew our early morning coffee. While we didn't use them, the availability of kayak and personal floatation devices to paddle out into the mangroves and bay is a really nice perk. Overall great value, super nice place, and excellent hosts. Of course you should ignore the few negative comments about the noisy wildlife! Who doesn't want to wake up early to the cry of howler monkeys, birds and insects? Not sure why anyone who doesn't love this would bother to visit the Oso Peninsula!

The property is on the Pacific Ocean. the rooms are hand crafted with wood and mesh (for the windows). I don’t know if I can really say enough good things about this place. There is a comunal kitchen equipped with everything you need. a comunal area for relaxing with a book in a hammock. there are kayaks available for free. you wake up each morning to all kinds of birds including macaw parrots, toucans, the little black birds with bright red. And if the owners dogs are lucky enough to escape you get to spend time with them. Thier grounds keepers are awesome as well but only out for short times. The owners son is a marine biologist and can tell you everything you need to know about the area and the ocean surrounding it. (warning though. if you are looking for a place to be pampered or with a spa, go to San Jose.) This place is a perfect, quiet getaway to get close to nature.

Very rustic as expected. I showed up late in the evening so it was a bit hard to find. My cabin was very cool with the walls made from sliced tree stumps. If you're looking for something different then the typical hotel and want 'roughing it' experience thus is the place. You will be able to hear the nightlife come alive. The room rate was a bargain.

Location: Rural location, no stores in walking distance, but a very nice restaurant at the bottom of the hill- 5 mins. Noise: Private room with bathroom. Just insects and frogs in the night, minimal traffic sound from highway in daytime. Light: No outside light, natural darkness. Mattress: Too soft for me, but okay. Other: Beautiful garden and sunrise spot. Really nice manager. Free use of kayak to explore bay. Natural mineral water direct from the mountain to your tap. Very relaxing spot- wish I had more time there.
