We loved our stay here, Sandra took care of us, helped us planning activities and helped us with scooter rentals..
The island was our trip highlight, we would gladly go back.

The chill vibe of the islanders, incredible snorkelling, unlimited free use of the kayaked but most of all the kindness of Kenya and Manfred, the hosts.
This property is located just 10 minutes’ walk from South West Bay Beach and features an extensive, beautiful garden.

It is probably a 1or2 star hotel, but I'm giving 4stars for a great visit. There are not a lot of 5star options on Providencia (ha sarcasm- there are None), so be grateful for the limited comforts of SW Bay Cabanas.
Our room was large, a suite with air conditioned bedroom, and a wonderful hammock on balcony. Selena, the office manager, is very friendly, helpful and always seems to be available for all your needs. Breakfast is charming on outdoor porch, but portions are meager, more than 1 cup of coffee will cost extra. Temperature is perfect for al fresco in the morning. The hotel grounds are fenced for security (from wandering horses, not really thieves) and have many coconut palms, and tropical bushes.
No safe, but the island has very little crime, this is not your top worry. No TV, but you shouldn't be glued to the boob tube in paradise anyway. Wifi only in restaurant, but my room balcony was close enough to pick it up from the hammock outside my room door.
Finishes are very basic and rough, but that is part of the adventure- you're in Colombia. No hot water, but the rooftop cistern heats up during the day so that a late afternoon shower is pleasantly tepid.
The hotel accepts credit cards, which is a serious plus. Most stores and restaurants are cash only. Bring enough of COP from the San Andres Airport ATM.
Featuring a garden and views of sea, HOTEL POSADA DEL MAR is located in Providencia, a 3-minute walk from Fresh Water Bay. The hotel features family rooms. At the hotel, every room has a balcony.

The location is very convenient, near store, some of the best restaurants of the island and the most important fact for me, besides Sonny Dive, which is a scuba dive I really recommend. It is very quiet and clean.

Friendly owners, freshly cooked breakfast, strong air conditioning, and an adopted dog, Poco, to keep us company! What more was there to ask for? It's a short, 40,000 peso ride from the airport and walking distance to the town, where you can stock up on food and even play pool. Hosts are very nice and rooms face the sea!

We absolutely loved our time at Miss Portia's place. Miss Portia and her family were kind and welcoming and we felt very lucky to be able to spend time on Providencia with them. The location is perfect - half a block to a grocery store, just a couple blocks from an amazing beach (SW Bay), and there are a number of nearby restaurants. They have motorcycles and a golf cart available to rent by the hour or day if you want to visit other parts of the island and Miss Portia can also help connect you to boat tours, etc. Having access to a kitchen was also great -- it's fully equipped with everything you need, including a blender. (FYI Water on the island isn't potable, so I would recommend getting a big 5 gallon jug from the nearby grocery store -- at the time of our visit it was only 11,000 COP). I highly recommend staying with Miss Portia if you are going to Providencia.

the workers are all so nice and helpful and helped me book things find rides etc
Santa Catalina is the smaller island north of Providence.
Santa Catalina is the smaller island north of Providence. It's quieter, walking-only, and connected to the other island via a bridge. In a way, this is the prettier island, and it's got the historic fort plus pirate hideouts to the north (accessable via swimming or boat). It's got a tiny, quiet beach which is absolutely gorgeous. Both islands combined are tiny and easy to get around, so I ate on Providencia mostly, though there are cafes on Santa Catalina and I bought drinks and snacks at the shops on Santa Catalina. I liked staying on Santa Catalina and would stay there next time.

Great views over the bay towards Providencia and the Old...
Great views over the bay towards Providencia and the Old Town. A couple of the restaurants were closed as it was low season - just before the rains and the annual black crab migration down from the mountains to release their eggs in the sea.
We enjoyed the street food at Big Mama’s.
